Tianjin’s Binhai International Airport will construct a new runway for test flights of the Airbus A320, Xinhua has reported. The European plane maker is already building an assembly line for production of the aircraft in Tianjin. The 3,200m long runway is planned to be ready by 1 May 2009. The runway will also be used for daily operational purposes, allowing Tianjin to become act as a ‘reserve’ airport for Beijing’s Capital International Airport.
