The Egyptian cobra that went missing from New York’s Bronx Zoo recently has been named following a public poll. The snake, which attracted a huge Twitter following after an online wag set up an account and started tweeting from across the city, has been named Mia – standing for ‘missing in action’. The winning name was nominated 222 times and received 27% of the more than 59,000 votes cast, the BBC reported zoo authorities as saying. Other suggested names included Subira, Amaunet, Cleopatra and Agnes. The 50cm cobra’s exhibit reopened on Saturday, when Mia made her first public appearance since being catapulted to fame.
