Thai low-cost carrier (LCC) Nok Air’s attempt to prematurely terminate leasing agreement for five Boeing 737-400s by have led to complaints from two aircraft leasing companies, the Bangkok Post has reported. US-based Gecas and Dutch leasing firm AerCap have both insisted that the LCC honour the deals. The aircraft were leased in 2006 on 5-year contracts, but unfavourable market conditions have meant the five aircraft now remain grounded. However Nok Air Chief Executive Patee Sarasin believes an understanding can be reached.
“They understand our situation and are unlikely to deal with the issue harshly as Nok Air was on time in paying the lease charge,” Patee told the Bangkok-based newspaper.
