Norwegian Cruise Line has announced its new ship Norwegian Escape will homeport in Miami year-round when it joins the fleet next year.
The ship will join the fleet in October 2015 and will offer seven-night Eastern Caribbean sailings from the US port from 14 November.
A repositioning cruise will take place from Southampton to Miami on 29 October onboard the new ship, which also had its hull artwork unveiled this week.
The hull design has been created by artist and ocean conservationist Guy Harvey and has an underwater marine wildlife theme with images of popular but endangered species.
“I am deeply honoured to be asked by Norwegian to paint the hull of the newest and largest ship in their fleet,” said Harvey. “The larger than life paintings of popular but endangered marine creatures in the Caribbean will heighten public awareness about marine life. The large scale mural demonstrates the concern and respect that Norwegian and I have for the marine environment through which this ship will travel over the years.”
The announcement is part of the cruise line’s unveiling of its winter 2015/16 itineraries, when we already know that Norwegian Epic will be based in Barcelona.
Norwegian Getaway will also continue to sail from Miami on Western Caribbean journeys, while Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Gem will sail the Caribbean from New York.
The ship deployments will see four other ships sail to the Caribbean: Norwegian Star cruising from Tampa; Norwegian Dawn from New Orleans; Norwegian Jade from Houston and Norwegian Spirit from Port Canaveral.
Norwegian Sun will return to South America for the first time since 2010, while Norwegian Pearl will sail on the Panama Canal as will Norwegian Jewel.
Finally Norwegian Sun will be based in LA for Mexican Riviera cruises.
