Norwegian Cruise Line has announced it will invest more than US$250 million on revamping its fleet.
The Norwegian NEXT programme will build on the success of its Breakaway-class ships to roll out new restaurants and bars on its eight other vessels, as well as customised entertainment and technology upgrades.
Its dining enhancements include new menus and choices in its main dining rooms and the Garden Café, while the O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill is being rolled out fleet-wide, as have Carlo’s Bake Shop by Buddy Valastro.
Entertainment will include new game shows, theme nights and deck parties including the roll-out of the H2Glow Party. A rehearsal facility has been set up so shows will be updated individually for each vessel.
The cruise line’s partnership with Nickelodeon will also expand with more activities and interaction, including a chance to be ‘slimed’ on Great Stirrup Cay, which will also be developed to offer more beaches, activities and cabanas.
Technology is also a focus for the cruise line with enhancements planned for WiFi, mobile apps and digital signage.
Seven of Norwegian’s ships will also be fitted with gas scrubbers and coated in a special paint to make them more efficient.
Pride of America, Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Sky, Norwegian Spirit and Norwegian Jewel have already gone through drydocks but will receive further upgrades, with Norwegian Gem to undergo changes this year. Norwegian Star and Norwegian Epic will go in drydock next year.
