The NZ Herald reported DrBruce Smith, of the country’s Electricity Commission, telling a conference in Wellington that electricvehicles have the ability to smooth the peaks and troughs of electricity supplyso efficiently they could triple the country’s capacity to use wind power.
He estimates that if 2.5 million of New Zealand’s estimated 4 millionregistered vehicles were electric, the whole electric fleet could run off 3000MWof wind generation. About 70% of New Zealand’s electricity comesfrom renewable sources.
