Dubai and Italy announced a slew of big money deals at the weekend following a productive trip by the Italian Premiere and other delegates.
Top level officials ratified US$1.765 billion worth of deals between the two countries, covering energy, environment, tourism, and infrastructure industries.
With Italy and Dubai set to host World Expos in 2015 and 2020 respectively, this has become a key area of bilateral cooperation for the partners.
Speaking at a meeting at the Emirates Palace hotel, Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta said; “The travelling experience has been of great success. We have put a foundation of strategic cooperation based on the fact that the two expos [will be held in our two countries].
“We are able today to help Dubai’s Expo team to avoid mistakes because, of course, we worked on the same experience these years and there were some mistakes.”
Mr. Letta also discussed the issue of the Expo legacy and had been impressed with Dubai’s early consideration and ideas on the issue which is of vital importance.
The Italian also expressed optimism on partnership negotiations between Alitalia and Etihad Airways, saying that during the next 30 days there will be “non-stop negotiations” over what stake Etihad will have in the Italian carrier.
