After a decade of planning and political wrangling, British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia have launched their transatlantic business, which have big implications for the Oneworld Airline Alliance. The financial impact on the three leading Oneworld member will be significant, with analysts saying the new business offers “substantial financial benefits”, worth as much as US$366 million (INR1,619 crore) for BA alone reports the Financial Times. While it is good news for airlines, passengers may see fares rise as Oneworld dominates transatlantic routes with Star Alliance and SkyTeam. The new Partnership will shift the power balance between the groups towards Oneworld.
