Citizens of countries who travel to the US under the Visa Waiver Program will need online authorisation from the Department of Homeland Security before they leave, effective 12 January, Bloomberg has reported.
Travellers are advised to register at least 72 hours before departure using the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, or ESTA, according to US embassy in Tokyo. Japan is one of the countries affected by the move.
