Thailand-based ONYX Hospitality Group has assumed the management of a 105-room hotel on China southern island province of Hainan, as it prepares to debut its Amari hotel brand in China. The existing property, owned by the Sanya Daxing Group, will undergo a complete rebranding exercise before relaunching as the Amari Sanya Bay on 1 March 2012.
ONYX’s President & Chief Executive Officer, Peter Henley, said; “We are delighted to be working with Sanya Daxing Group which has considerable experience in property development on Hainan island. We believe that Sanya is a vibrant place with an impressive array of commercial and leisure attractions and will develop into a major tourist destination in Asia.”
“This inaugural Amari-branded hotel in China is a significant milestone in ONYX’s strategic development. With our international experience, a proven management track record, and depth of resources, we believe that Amari Sanya Bay will bring a vibrant, Thai-style level of service to Sanya, thereby differentiating it strongly from the large-scale developments elsewhere on the island allowing it to reach its full potential,” he added.
Located 20 minutes’ drive from Sanya Phoenix International Airport, the 11-storey property features a range of rooms with balconies and views of Sanya Bay. Facilities will include a below-ground Chinese restaurant, a Thai restaurant with two dining pavilions, a waterfront clubhouse, spa and an outdoor swimming pool with poolside bars.
Amari has a strong brand identity in Thailand, having been one of the country’s major domestic hotel companies for several decades. The move into China comes at a time of considerable expansion for ONYX, which was formed in March 2010 in an effort to boost Amari’s presence international market, and diversify its range of brands. Amari’s first international hotel was recently launched in the Maldives, and its recently-acquired Sharma serviced residence brand has properties in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Dalian.
