Philippine Airlines (PAL) rolled out in-flight mobile and internet connectivity on its new long-range aircraft.
The national carrier selected OnAir to install the new technology aboard its Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 aircraft, enabling passengers to make and receive calls and browse the internet while at 30,000 feet.
“Allowing our passengers to call and surf the web while flying is another first only a legacy carrier like PAL can offer. This new service is part of our strategy to provide only the best to our customers,” said PAL’s president Ramon Ang.
Actually however, PAL’s main rival, low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific Airways (CEB), also recently introduced in-flight Wi-Fi on its new Airbus A330-300 aircraft. The aircraft – CEB’s first long-range jet – has been deployed on routes to Seoul and Singapore, ahead of the launch of flights to Dubai in October.
PAL will also return to the Middle East this autumn, launching new services to Abu Dhabi on 1 October 2013. It will also commence flights to Doha, Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Dubai before the end of the year.
The in-flight connectivity debuted on a PAL B777-300ER aircraft, which flew from Manila to Vancouver earlier this month. The service will be progressively installed on the rest of PAL’s long-range aircraft in the coming months.
