Passenger numbers rise for Lufthansa

Lufthansa has reported a 26.5% rise in passenger numbers in the first quarter year-on-year. Capacity in the same period (January-March) rose by 2.2% and revenue seat-kilometres increased by 3.3%. Traffic grew in all regions, particularly in the Middle East and Asia. The group’s airlines flew a total of 19 million passengers throughout 2009, an increase of 1.2%. Of the total passenger count, 3.2 million flew with SWISS, 2.1 million with Austrian Airlines and 1.4 million with bmi. Lufthansa Cargo increased its transportation with a rise of 19.3% year-on-year and a cargo load factor of 71.8%, up 14.2%.
