Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) President and CEO Peter de Jong says advocacy remains the “most powerful and effective” role for the organization.
PATA is championing an initiative ‘Keeping the Economy Airborne’ and is running advertorials in the 15 September Asian editions of TIME and Fortune magazines.
Earlier this year, one of aviation’s toughest years on record, PATA sought the opinions of its carrier members on what could be done to lessen their pain.
Their responses touched on a range of themes such as government regulation, improved operating efficiencies, improved air traffic control, funding for alternative fuel development and increased cross-sector co-operation.
“Having reviewed their responses, it is clear that the most clear and effective role for PATA remains advocacy,” said de Jong. “This week we are fulfilling that role with full-page advertorials in TIME and Fortune magazines. Our message reinforces the economic importance of the sector and argues for a global approach to carbon emissions trading, as opposed to the EU’s unilateral approach.”
