The Pacific Asia Travel Association has revealed that it will hold its third PATA Exchange event on 14 March. The UK-based event aims to promote tourism destinations and suppliers in the Pacific and Asia regions to travel agents and tour operators. “In the UK, PATA is working with our colleagues in the travel trade to support promotion of the region through what remain challenging trading conditions,” said Ian Hawkes, executive director of PATA (UK chapter). “We will continue this actively into 2011 and are already well advanced with plans for the third annual PATA Exchange event in London.” Meanwhile, the association reported that international visitor figures to Asia and the Pacific have grown 10 percent year-on-year. The region has seen slower growth throughout August but was boosted by a 12 percent rise in arrivals during the first eight months of this year. “It is encouraging tosee that the growth momentum remains strong and the immediate outlook for Asia Pacific very positive,” said Hawkes. Countries in South Asia such as the Maldives, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka witnessed the biggest increase in inbound numbers at 13.9 percent (year-on-year). Meanwhile, Northeast Asia (Hong Kong, Macau, China) registered an 11 percent increase in travellers and 13 percent more holidaymakers headed to Southeast Asia (Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia). The Pacific, including Australia, New Zealand, Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea, also reported an eight percent rise in arrivals across the region.
