International passenger demand showed a year-on-year growth of 6.7%, while average load factors for the period were 75.4%.
Asia Pacific grew at 6.2% while North American carriers were up 5.4%, however the Middle East remained the fastest growing region showing a 17.6% year on year passenger demand increase. A boost by improved economic performance and growing links with Asia and the Middle East contributed to a demand growth of 10.1% for African airlines.
Bisignani said there is a lot of good news in the industry and “liberalised agreements between the US and Europe and the US and China are opening up important markets.”
IATA will release an updated financial forecast from its AGM on 04 Jun, following the IATA Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit in Vancouver, Canada, the biggest aviation event of the year, which commences this weekend.
