Perhentian Islands has been named Malaysia's fastest-growing destination for international travellers, according to Agoda's latest New Horizons ranking.
The digital travel platform's annual report, which compares accommodation booking ranks over the past two years, also identifies Sitiawan as the top domestic destination and Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam as a rising favourite among Malaysian travellers.
Fabian Teja, Country Director for Malaysia and Brunei at Agoda, noted a shift in traveller preferences towards authentic, nature-led, and culturally rich experiences.
"Travellers today are looking beyond the usual hotspots," he said, highlighting the growing appeal of destinations like Perhentian Islands, Sitiawan, and Phu Quoc.
A vibrant destination
The Perhentian Islands rose to 14th place in 2025 from 16th in 2024, attracting visitors with its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, ideal for snorkelling and diving.
Meanwhile, Sitiawan climbed to 43rd place in 2025 from 48th in 2024, drawing local interest with its seafood and cultural heritage.
For Malaysians venturing abroad, Phu Quoc Island has become increasingly popular, moving up to 21st place in 2025 from 34th in 2024.
Known for its stunning beaches and luxury resorts, Phu Quoc offers a tropical paradise with vibrant night markets and fresh seafood.
Agoda's report also highlights Sapa in Vietnam as Asia's top emerging destination, followed by Okayama and Matsuyama in Japan, and Bandung in Indonesia.
Travellers planning their 2026 trips can explore Agoda's deals on over 6 million holiday properties, 130,000 flight routes, and 300,000 activities.
