The number of tourists visiting Jordan’s ancient city of Petra last year hit 800,000 compared with 500,000 in 2007, Xinhua reported the Petra Archaeological Park as saying yesterday.
According to the park, around 711,000 of the total number were foreign, with the majority coming from Europe. Entry fees collected at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed site in 2008 exceeded JOD15 million (US$21.3 million), the report added.
