Ping pong hotel to rise in China

China’s love of table tennis is to be showcased in a new ping pong hotel. The China Daily reported that the150-metre high hotel, located in Huainan, Anhui province, will be designed in the shape of a table tennis bat, complete with circular windows to mark the nodules on the face of the paddle, topped off by the handle section rising into the sky.”A ping pong bat has a perfect architectural shape for a hotel,” Jin Chang, Director of Huainan Municipal Bureau of Sports, was reported saying.
The CNY300 million (US$45.7 million) hotel is unlikely to look out of place however; it will form part of a major sports complex in the city, with all facilities designed to resemble items of sports equipment. The main stadium will be shaped like an American football, while there will be separate volleyball-, basketball- and football-shaped arenas. The 67-hectare park is expected to cost CNY1.8 billion reach 1.8 billion, and is aimed at attracting international sporting events to the area in the next 20 years.
