In an initiative aimed at creating more tourist hubs, the Tourism Ministry is considering creating new pilgrim circuits involving those related to Jain, Buddhist, Sikh and Sufi sites in the country. “There is a requirement of creating new tourist circuits in an integrated way to attract more tourists. So we are finalising plans for creation of four pilgrim circuits in the country,” a senior Tourism Ministry official was quoted saying in an Indian Express report. The circuits would not only increase footfalls in the pilgrim sites but also attract foreign visitors, the official had added. The Ministry is in discussion with railway and civil aviation ministries and state governments for creating the necessary infrastructure to connect pilgrim sites. “Our effort is to facilitate the movement of tourists with the better infrastructure facilities and we are discussing the matter with the authorities concerned for creation of the network for the purpose,” the official was quoted saying.
