Plymouth in Devon has been declared the best-value city in the UK for a hotel stay by hotel booking website, trivago.
Plymouth topped a list of 26 UK cities which were each required to have a minimum of 50 hotels, with an average of at least 150 reviews per hotel.
With an index of 90.33 and an average of £76 per night in 2015, Plymouth beat rival city Exeter to the top spot in the Best Value UK City Index 2015. Although price is a contributing factor to the best value index, cities must also have excellent hotel ratings.
The best value index combines hotel price data with user reviews and ratings, and cities that fared well were praised for the good location, friendly staff, spacious rooms and affordability of their hotels.
Commenting on the achievement, Destination Plymouth CEO Amanda Lumley said: “We are delighted that Plymouth’s hotels have been recognised by Trivago as the best value-for-money in the UK, and we welcome visitors from across the country to take advantage of Plymouth’s highly rated and great value accommodation options.
“Plymouth also offers visitors complimentary and reasonably-priced attractions including the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, the Plymouth Gin Distillery and the UK’s largest marine aquarium as well as celebrity chef dining at affordable prices with restaurants from Gary Rhodes, Mitch Tonks and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. The city-centre also offers a great selection of national and independent shopping as well as world-class theatre entertainment at the Theatre Royal.”
