07 Apr 10 (TravMedia.com): P&O Cruises has expanded its range of short break and theme cruises to meet rising consumer demand, including an unprecedented 16 voyages of less than a week in its latest program.
One of the highlights will be a special three-night Australia Day cruise in 2012 giving passengers the chance to enjoy the special events and fireworks on Sydney Harbour before heading out to sea.
The cruise line will also sail an extra six-night Melbourne Cup cruise from Sydney, with Pacific Pearl joining Pacific Jewel on the traditionally sold-out voyage in November 2011.
P&O Cruises has expanded its popular food and wine themed cruises beyond the Hunter to explore a range of other renowned Australian destinations.
Pacific Jewel will bring a taste of South Australia’s legendary Barossa region to Sydney for a three-night short break in July 2011 and Pacific Sun to explore Western Australia’s gourmet food and wine offerings in August 2011. Prices start from $699* per person twin share.
On sale from April 6, the new program offers 50 different itineraries on four ships sailing from five homeports between July 2011 and March 2012. Prices start from $1989 per person twin share for a 10-night cruise to the South Pacific onboard Pacific Jewel from Sydney.
In all, the new program spans 124 sailings across Australasia over nine months, representing a 10 per cent increase in the number of cruise holidays on offer compared to the 2010-11 season.
Sydney will benefit from a massive 25 per cent more cruise departures thanks to the city’s own superliner, Pacific Jewel, being joined for a season by Pacific Pearl and Pacific Sun in 2011.
Meanwhile, Pacific Sun will return to Newcastle in February and March 2011 for her third cruise season while Pacific Pearl will spend her second Christmas season sailing from Auckland, from mid-December until the end of January 2012.
Pacific Pearl will offer three new 10-night round-trip cruises to New Zealand from Sydney in November 2011 and March 2012, featuring scenic cruising in Fjordland National Park and visiting Dunedin, Christchurch, Picton and Wellington and priced from $2019* per person.
Seven-night cruises to the South Pacific on Pacific Dawn start from $1379* per person, visiting New Caledonia’s Noumea, Lifou in the Loyalty Islands and Port Vila in Vanuatu.
Australian travellers keen on escaping the winter chill in July 2011 will appreciate a 17-night cruise onboard Pacific Sun from Sydney to Fremantle via Queensland and the Top End, priced from $3069* per person.
Jenny Lourey, Senior Vice President of Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises, said the new program offered Australian travellers the largest ever selection of cruise holidays.
“P&O Cruises’ new program offers more Australians the convenience of cruising from their doorstep, as well as giving travellers the chance to book earlier to secure their ideal cruise holiday,” Ms Lourey said.
