Two polar bears born at Sapporo zoo, Japan, have been given a severe identity crisis, after zoo officials botched their gender tests, the Japan Times has reported. The bears, 4-year-old Tsuyoshi and 2-year-old Pirika, were raised as males, but new tests have confirmed that they are both females.
The zoo’s mistake surfaced after Tsuyoshi “never showed interest” in a female bear it was planned to mate with, the report said.
