Port Everglades has announced that it will renovate four of its cruise terminals to house Carnival’s new ships. The refurbishments will cost US$35 million and is part of a deal with the cruise line that will guarantee a minimum of 25.5 million Carnival guests in the next 15 years. It could potentially generate half a billion dollars in port revenue. “Flexibility will be the main feature of the redesigned terminals,” says Phil Allen, director of Port Everglades. “Today’s cruise terminals have to be able to handle more people and bigger ships. In addition, we want to move these people as quickly and efficiently as possible so they can begin enjoying their vacation that much sooner.” Construction is expected to begin in late 2012 and the first terminal is set to be completed in spring 2013
