Portugal has seen an increase in British tourists heading to its shores.
Last year UK visitors accounted for seven million overnight stays in Portugal, up 8.6% year-on-year.
The UK tourist count was 7.4% up to 1.4 million with revenues up 4.2% to EUR1.5 billion.
Numbers are expected to increase again this year with TAP Portugal, British Airways, Jet2, Ryanair, easyJet, Monarch, Thomson and Flybe all adding capacity to the country’s four airports.
“We believe this is due to the diverse product we have on offer, from cities, beaches, golf, nature and culture, to world-renowned gastronomy and wine,” said Filipe Silva, UK director of Turismo de Portugal. “Throughout this year we will continue to work closely with tour operators and travel agents within the industry to promote the country’s latest developments and products, and hopefully in turn, attract more visitors.”
