Hotel stays in UK ports are increasingly being sold as part of pre-cruise packages. This has significantly increased in the past two or three years following a surge in cruise and ferry bookings. Superbreak Sales Director Ian Mounser told Travel Daily that port hotels had been selling well for the operator. “Port hotels, particularly in Southampton, are selling well as the ex-UK cruise market is very strong,” he explained. Mounser said bookings had been boosted because travel agents had been working hard to sell ancillary services. Meanwhile, several hotels in Southampton have suggested that pre-cruise stays have always been popular. “Many hotels are used to having cruise guests and it was always been that way,” Novotel Southampton’s Reception Manager Julian Miguires told Travel Daily. “We are usually full when there is a cruise departure”. UK cruise passengers usually stay one night in the hotels to ease travel but US visitors sometimes stay two or three nights.
