An airport official has warned of summer chaos for travellers at Ahmedabad airport as airlines take bookings on flights which are yet to be rescheduled. Work at the SVP international airport is due to begin in April and finish in June. Airport authorities intend to close the runway for carpeting between 10.30am and 5pm every day from 1 April which will affect flight schedules. Then form 15 May- 15 June, flights will be completely suspended during this daytime period.
Authorities told TOI that during this period a major part of the 3,599-metre runway will be carpeted. “The runway will be shut down for six hours daily. Initially, around 10 flights will be rescheduled. We have held meetings with airline operators and have asked them to announce the details of rescheduled flights so that those getting affected can plan accordingly,” said Ahmedabad Airport Director, Anuj Aggarwal. The paper also reports that airlines are still taking bookings on flights through this period, however they have not yet released revised flight schedules. One airport official criticised the carriers for failing to help passengers and making no efforts to help the situation. “So the next three months will see chaos at the airport and travellers will have to bear the brunt,” said the TOI source.
