Pro-tourism proposals in HK budget

The government has included 10 sites for hotel use, which HKTB Chairman James Tien said would developers to build more hotels of different types.
“Given the strong demand for medium- to high-tariff hotel accommodation in recent years, we hope the Government would earmark sites in the urban or commercial districts for hotel development.”
“On the proposal of waiving the hotel accommodation tax, we believe this will not only showcase our simple tax regime, but also arouse visitors’ interest in coming to Hong Kong, and encourage their greater spending on shopping, dining and other areas,” he said.
The government has also proposed to allocate HK$30 million in additional funds for the HKTB to promote the convention and exhibition business.
