Qantas will celebrate the 60th anniversary of flights between Australia and South Africa - known as the Wallaby Route - on 14 November. The Aussie national carrier commenced services on 1948, with flights from Sydney to Johannesburg, via Perth, the Cocos Island and Mauritius. Nowadays Qantas operates five direct Sydney-Jo’burg flights per week, which will increase to six from 16 December and move to daily in 2009.
