People in the Australian state of Queensland have taken part in a mass capture of cane toads as part of a collective pest control effort. The BBC reported that the ‘Toad Day Out’, as it is known, sees toads captured alive and unharmed, examined by experts, and then killed humanely.
Cane toads were introduced to Australia from South America in 1935 to eat beetles, but soon became a pest themselves.
“This is an example of how the war against cane toads can be won,” Queensland politician, Shane Knuth, was quoted saying.
