Torrential rains have lashed the subcontinent in the past few months, taking a consequential toll on inbound tourism to North Karnataka. Cyclone Jal and the impacts of climate change are being blamed for the extreme conditions witnessed this season and as tourist arrivals to the region dwindle concerns are being raised at the tourist department. According to TOI, visitations to honey pot sites across North Karnataka have dropped between March and October which is normally considered a favourable season to visit. Instead the threats of heavy rain and flooding, as well as reports of stranded tourists, have served to keep international visitors away. Numbers of Indians visitors to major sites are down as much as 20% and foreigners are down 40%.
