Ras Al Khaimah is poised to pitch its planned “Arabian-themed pleasure pier” concept to a variety of international cruise lines. This multi-million dollar Cruise Port Project has been hailed “the most unique port of call in the world” by the advisor and consultant to the RAK Government for the project, Ian Calvert, who told TDME the pier would be “unique, like the destination”.”We will not follow others – we will create an arrival pier that will exceed the passengers’ expectations,” he said.Cruise guests would be met by “costumed locals offering a traditional Arabian welcome, with music, dance and a very big smile”, he continued.Calvert also revealed that located at the end of pier would be a brand new five-star all-inclusive resort – Royal Flame Beach Oasis - adjacent to the existing Hilton Beach Resort & Spa.Calvert, who is also the Managing Director of Nice Stay Travel Ltd and Ras Al Khaimah Vacations Ltd said he would soon be pitching the cruise facility - known as Port Nearchus - to cruise lines based in the Gulf from December to May.He noted that RAK’s cruise offering would cater to all types of ship but would avoid becoming an “ugly concrete jungle”.”The emirate is so unique and far less expensive than Dubai,” he added. In terms of the passenger experience, Calvert said there would be a “selection of tours and excursions and a choice unequalled by other ports of call”. “As ships are berthed right beside the city, passengers will be able to disembark without delay and all the places of interest in are easily accessible,” he said.In terms of the offering at Royal Flame Beach Oasis, Calvert promised a beach experience that would be “tastefully themed”, offering a “truly Arabic feel with shaded Bedouin style tents with henna tattoos, shisha pipes, local costumes for photo opportunities, traditional local food and drink tastings, and local crafts for sale”. “Nobody will hassle you,” he said. “Our waters are crystal clear and would make an ideal snorkelling option. “We will offer an all-inclusive experience, with barbecue lunch and unlimited beverages or the guest can use the various F&B outlets at the resort.”
