Record sales drop for Japan department stores

Department store sales in Japan fell 11% in the first half of 2009 to JPY3.2 trillion (US$34.2 billion); the sharpest ever drop for a six-month period. Kyodo News reported Japan Department Stores Association as saying that sales in June fell 8.8% from a year earlier – the 16th straight monthly decline.
