A Fijian resort has been forced to spend thousands of dollars on chartered aircraft to transport their guests following the delay and cancellation of Air Fiji services. The Fiji Times has reported that guests at the five-star Jean Michel Cousteau Resort in Savusavu were left stranded by the continuing problems of the Pacific island’s national carrier. Last month Air Fiji grounded all 11 of its aircraft without explanation, though it is thought the carrier is struggling with high fuel costs.
Resort Manager and President of the Savusavu Tourism Association, Greg Taylor, said the Air Fiji situation has caused great difficulties for all hoteliers in Savusavu.
“The hotels in outlying areas and the community at large have been affected. We have had to charter aircraft for our guests who travel from Nadi to Labasa and vice versa,” Taylor said.
“We have tried to get in touch with Air Fiji but there has been no response from them,” he added.
