Rezidor plans huge African growth

Belgium-based hospitality company, Rezidor Hotel Group, has announced plans to open 35 new hotels in Africa by 2010. So far this year, Rezidor signed six new properties on the continent, with the Radisson Hotel Bamako, Mali, opening for business just last week. Others signed and under construction are the Radisson Hotel Lagos, Nigeria, and the Radisson Hotel Dakar, Senegal. Both scheduled for completion by Q1 2009.
In South Africa, the group will open a 290-room Radisson SAS in property in Sandton, Johannesburg, and a 173-room Radisson SAS in Port Elizabeth by the end of this year. Meanwhile Rezidor also has plans for a 144-room property in Blaauwberg to be completed by 2010 and a 190-room Park Inn in Sandton, also 2010.
The group has additional plans for openings in key capital cities across the continent, including Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Nairobi, Kenya, and Cairo, Egypt. A Radisson Resort & Spa in Morocco has also been announced.
“We have been focusing all our resources in Africa because the continent is more stable today than it was 10 years ago,” Rezidor’s Senior Vice-President and Chief Development Officer, Puneet Chhatwal, said. “There are huge opportunities for us to grow our brands.”
Rezidor, currently manages 323 hotels under its Radisson, Carlson, Park Inn and Regent brands.
