The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has announced the debut of The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi, in a private bay, surrounded by an jungle, near the Andaman Sea.
“We are thrilled to be introducing The Ritz-Carlton to Langkawi. This exciting opening marks our first resort destination in Malaysia, and the second property in the country following The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur,” said Hervé Humler, president and chief operating officer of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.C.C. “With spectacular coastal views, lush rainforests and a blend of cultures, Langkawi offers stunning natural beauty with a fascinating story. The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi provides guests with the opportunity to experience the wonders of this unique island for themselves.”
Designed by Philippe Villeroux of Kuala Lumpur-based Tropical Area Architects, the resort has 70 guest rooms, 15 suites and 29 villas including overwater villas with panoramic views of the sea. Especially suited to multi-generational families or other groups, the resort’s Villa Mutiara offers deluxe accommodation for up to eight and boasts two pools and access to a private beach.
The resort’s Walkway of Wishes is inspired by the island’s granter of wishes, Tasik Dayang Bunting, ‘The Lake of Pregnant Maiden.’ Guests can enjoy a performance of a tarian payang on the beach, a traditional gesture of thanks and respect for the rich bounty of the sea and land. Guided jungle walks reveal the myths and creatures of the surrounding rainforest, while learning the graceful Silat moves of ancient Malay warriors allow one to tap into the magic of Langkawi legends.
The resort is home to four dining venues, each overlooking the Andaman Sea: local cuisines at Langkawi Kitchen, western Beach Grill, and Chinese seafood in Hai Yan. Fitness facilities include an outdoor tennis court, gym, spa, yoga room and pool, fishing or sailing trips and diving.
