The Malaysian government is planning to introduce a road pricing system where drivers pay a fee to enter certain parts of the city.
The New Straits Times said the Area Road-Pricing (ARP) scheme was aimed at controlling traffic flow within the KL central business district, where peak-hour speeds averaged 25kph.
The report did not state a time frame for the implementation of the scheme but it quoted Kuala Lumpur City Hall Master Plan Department Director Zainab Mohd Gazali as saying that the ARP system would only be introduced when all public transport facilities were up and running.
