Royal Jordanian orders seven new Airbus aircraft

Royal Jordanian has confirmed it will replace six Airbus aircraft in its fleet with seven new A320 and A321 aircraft. The first delivery is scheduled for April of next year, with the remainder to follow in 2012.RJ President/CEO Hussein Dabbas said the new aircraft underlined the airline’s commitment to modernising its fleet and to expanding its short- and medium-range route network. The order consists of five A320 and two A321 aircraft. Dabbas claimed the six aircraft that will be replaced have only been in service for six years.The new aircraft will be equipped with a state-of-the-art entertainment system and other modern passenger amenities. The RJ fleet currently comprises 30 aircraft and is regarded as one of the Middle East’s most modern.Last year, Royal Jordanian concluded its short- and medium-range fleet modernisation program with the acquisition of 19 new aircraft, consisting of 12 A320s and seven Embraers 195 and 175. The airline plans to add another new Embraer 175 to its fleet in the final quarter of this year. RJ also has orders placed for 11 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which will start joining its fleet in 2013.
