Ryanair has announced plans to reduce some of its fees and restrictions following criticism from passengers.
The low-cost airline will reduce its fee to reprint boarding passes from GBP70 to GBP15 from 1 December and passengers will be allowed to carry a second ‘small’ handbag or airport shopping bag on flights.
The airline will also drop its charges for checking in luggage at airports from GBP60 to GBP30 a bag (from 5 January) and will allow errors like spelling mistakes to be changed free of charge in a 24-hour ‘grace’ period.
Announcements on flights that operate between 9pm and 8am will also have fewer promotional announcements so passengers can sleep easier.
“These are the first in a series of customer service improvements which Ryanair is actively working on to make our low fare services easier to access and even more enjoyable for our millions of customers,” said Caroline Green, Ryanair’s director of customer services.
In a recent Q&A on Twitter, Ryanair’s chief executive Michael O’Leary ‘revealed’ several projects the airline is working on, including bedspace in empty baggage holds; new routes from Birmingham and a possibility of trans-atlantic flights.
The carrier is also due to launch smartphone check-in next spring.
