Sabre has rebuked accusations that it is leading a secret boycott on American flight bookings to preserve the technology company’s position in the market. This is the latest allegation made in the ongoing dispute between the airline and major global data distribution companies Travelport and Sabre.
American submitted a fresh complaint to a court in Texas yesterday, saying that Sabre had arranged “secret collusive boycott agreements” with travel agencies to discourage them from booking with American when using the Sabre GDS system.
Quoted in Bloomberg, an airline statement read; “Sabre’s motive for its orchestrated attacks is clear. Sabre intends to coerce American into abandoning its effort to modernise and streamline the costly legacy system for distributing American’s travel data.”
Sabre flatly denies the accusation calling it “another example of American Airlines distorting the facts and trying to use the courts to negotiate a new contract”. Nevertheless, the company remains committed to negotiating a new distribution contract with its longstanding airline partner. In the mean time Sabre will continue to distribute America Airlines flight data.
