Indonesia’s Santika Hotels & Resorts is planning to launch its first international hotel next year. Speaking to Travel Daily at the PATA Travel Mart in New Delhi today, the Jakarta-based company’s Corporate Director of Sales & Marketing, Guido Andriano said that an existing hotel in Singapore would commence a major refurbishment project later this year, before being rebranded and relaunched as a two-star ‘amaris hotel by Santika’ in late 2012. The amaris hotel brand currently has a portfolio of 16 properties in Indonesia, with two more additions, in Bogor and Jakarta, being launched in 2011, and a further eight hotels in the pipeline.
Andriano added that future international expansion is planned, with developments being considered in Vietnam, Hong Kong and Australia, although nothing has been confirmed as yet.
In total, Santika is planning to expand its portfolio from 36 to 60 hotels by the end of 2012 across its range of brands. This will include the three-star Santika brand adding two more hotels to its existing 12-property Indonesian portfolio this year, with openings planned in Jakarta and Bengkulu, southwest Sumatra.
A four-star Santika Premiere hotel will launch in Medan in December this year, incorporating a large convention centre, while future additions are expected to the company’s luxury Royal Collection brand in Bali, where the company already operates three high-end properties – one in Ubud and two in Seminyak.
Finally, Santika revealed that the historic Ambarrukmo Hotel in Yogyakarta is being refurbished and will reopen in October 2011. A former palace, the hotel’s heritage exterior is being preserved, but the interior design will be revamped.
