“Sarawak has a lot of attractions to offer tourists – culture, adventure, and nature – but the lack of air connectivity has resulted in tourists bypassing the state because of the inconvenience of getting connecting flights,” an assistant minister Daud Abdul Rahman was quoted saying by Bernama.
AirAsia Sarawak station manager, S. Shanmugamnathan Suppiah, was quoted saying that his airline would not hesitate to launch new routes if tourism industry players worked with them.
“The private sector, including the tour agents, must take the opportunity to introduce new marketing strategies to help us sustain the Kuching-Macau route, AirAsia’s first international connection from Sarawak, to be launched on Thursday to ensure it maintains extremely high loads.
“This (high loads) will apparently prompt AirAsia to ask for additional new international direct routes, including popular tourist destinations like Shenzen, Jakarta, Bangkok and Brunei for Sarawak,” he was quoted saying.
