Sarovar Hotels and Resorts will strengthen its portfolio of self-owned hotels with an INR50 crore investment in two new properties in Tamil Nadu over the next two years.
This will effectively double Sarovar’s wholly-owned hotel inventory as the company is primarily concerned with hotel management.
With existing hotels in Indore and Chandigarh, work on the two Tamil Nadu projects is penciled to begin within the next four months.
Landownership in the state has already been secured and permissions granted to begin work on two new, three-star Hometels. Another, independently-owned Hometel is set to open in Rookeree this April with 94 rooms.
With several brands under its name, Sarovar will commence management of 25 additional properties across India before April.
The group currently manages 54 hotels in 39 destinations mostly in India with two in Africa, under various brands ranging from three to five stars catering to both business and leisure travellers.
Also taking the opportunity to put pressure on the government ahead of the Budget, Sarovar Hotels and Resorts Senior Vice-President of Sales and Marketing, Pradeep Kalra, told PTI that the hospitality sector is currently facing two issues that is hampering its growth.
“The government should rational taxes and also encourage low cost air carriers in the country that can help the tourism industry overall,” he said.
