Scandinavia Airlines (SAS) has sold part of its ground handling operations to airport giant, Swissport International.
The two companies have signed an agreement whereby Swissport will acquire a 10% stake in each of SAS’ three ground handling companies. SAS said the sale was in line with its “divestment and outsourcing” strategy, and would “increase operational flexibility and effectiveness”.
The move follows the recent sale of its Norwegian regional carrier, Wideroe.
“I am very pleased to announce this important step in our ground handling strategy: We set out to find an industrial solution with a strong industry partner. With Swissport as a partner we will be able to develop the business while still delivering high quality to our customers,” said Rickard Gustafson, group president & CEO of SAS.
Swissport had intended to take complete control of SAS’ ground and cargo handling services in Scandinavia. But the two parties were forced to put these plans on hold until after completion of Swissport’s acquisition of Servisair, which is awaiting merger clearance.
