Scheduled flights increase in December – OAG

This month’s analysis of the OAG (Official Airline Guide) schedules database indicates that airlines Worldwide will operate 1% more flights in December 2009 as compared to December 2008. The total number of scheduled flights operating in December 2009 is 2,379,371 with an overall seat offering of 294,817,746 an increase of 4% as compared to December 2008.
According to this months numbers Middle Eastern region continues to reflect strong positive growth. The number of flights and seat capacity Within Middle East is scheduled to rise by 19% and 23% respectively. Total flights scheduled to operate Within Middle East are 43,518 and seat capacity offered is 6,638,493. Similarly, flight activity and seat capacity To/From Middle East also reflects a strong increase of 10% each with frequency of 48,286 and seat capacity of 10,418,871 in December 2009.
North American region continues to show decline this month. The number of flights operated Within North America reflects a reduction of 19,860 flights amounting to a 2% drop compared to December 2008. And the overall seat capacity is reduced to 74,264,065 from 76,871,435 for the same period reflecting a 3% drop. Flights To/From North America have increased marginally by 1%, 623 more flights than December 2008. Seats however have reduced by 23,814 (0.14% reduction from December 2008).
Flight operations Within Europe have reduced by 2% but there is a marginal increase of 1% in the offered seats. December 2009 has
a decline of 12,742 flights and increase of 582,518 seats compared to December 2008. Traffic To/From Europe though shows a positive growth with a small increase of 4% in number of flights and 3% in offered seats.
The number of flights and offered seats To/From Asia Pacific reflects an increase of 4% each. Traffic Within Asia/Pacific shows a
noticeable increase this month as well. Within Asia/Pacific there will be 39,194 more flights and 6,813,998 more seats than in December 2008 resulting in an increase of 7% in flight operations and 9% in seat offerings.
Number of flights and seat capacity To/From Africa reflects an increase of 16% each. As compared to December 2008 there will be
4,935 more flights and 993,356 more seats this month.
This month Within Central & South America there will be 201,002 flights, 8,178 more than in December 2008. The resultant increase in growth is 4%. The volume of seats offered shows an increase of 2,306,194, a 12% growth compared to December 2008.
