The Scottish Tourism Alliance (STA) has outlined a three-year strategy as its annual general meeting and October conference takes place in Stirling today.
Four pillars make up the new strategy which will be announced later today, which will focus on ensuring the alliance’s long-term sustainability and broadening its membership to other sectors.
The alliance also plans to engage in more direct conversation as it looks to play a major role in the Tourism Scotland 2020 initiative, while also building an information ‘gateway’ for tourism businesses.
The STA has already seen its membership double in the last two years.
Marc Crothall, CEO of STA said: “The STA continues to go from strength to strength, having had 500+ delegates attend our national conference in March and more than 200+ attend today again reaffirms our credibility as the lead body and our being able to provide a truly representative voice of the industry. After an amazing year for Scotland in the media spotlight and with momentum and confidence running high everyone attending today looks forward to hearing more on the future opportunities for the tourism industry in Scotland post the referendum result.”
Today’s conference speakers include Fergus Ewing, MSP Minister Energy, Enterprise and Tourism and Francesca Tudini, the European Commission’s head of European policy.
Stuart Turner from EventScotland will also take to the stage discussing how the industry can make use of Scotland’s Year of Food & Drink in 2015.
Ewing said: “Looking forward to 2015, the Year of Food & Drink is a chance to spotlight, celebrate and promote Scotland’s natural larder and quality produce to our people and our visitors and to capitalise on the momentum created by the previous Year of Food & Drink and Homecoming.”
Scotland has already seen strong visitation following the Commonwealth Games, Ryder Cup, referendum and will soon host the MTV Europe Music Awards as well as its on-going Homecoming celebrations.
