SCTDA meet with industry representatives

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) recently held a meeting with more than 35 representatives of luxury hotel establishments. The meeting was held at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry to fine-tune special summer promotions and packages. The meeting was hosted by Maysoon Hassan Al Hosni, manager, Tourism Standards Department.
At the meeting, SCTDA officials outlined plans for an agreement to cover special offers, promotions and discounted rates during the summer for residents. This is being done with a strategic vision of encouraging more domestic tourists.
The meeting discussed in detail initiatives by Sharjah’s hospitality industry to draw more visitors during summer to the Emirate. HE Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, director general, SCTDA, said that the Authority has been exerting constant efforts to support and promote tourism in the emirate. In cooperation with the hotel industry, the Authority has been working to improve the industry standards and provide services and prices to guests, especially to those from within the Emirate.
Al Midfa expressed his satisfaction over pace of growth of domestic tourism, which has registered progress in recent years with domestic tourist occupancy ratio during the first quarter of this year rising by 26%. Sharjah’s hotels hosted 65,892 domestic tourists in the first quarter of this year while the number in the same period last year stood at 52,131 guests. Hotels in the Emirate registered an 11% increase in number of hotel guests during the first three months of this year.
