During the discussion at the Thailand Focus 2007 investors’ conference this week, Bangkok Post reported that tourist operators agreed that greater cross-marketing support would help exploit on the region’s abundant resources. Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia in Thailand said the increase of visitor arrivals mainly from China and Russia markets are growing rapidly due to strong economic development, but growth can be improved much more with stronger assistance from the government, the report said.
Low-cost airlines have helped promote tourism by attracting visitors, so now Tourism providers must respond to the arrivals by introducing more choices of services, he added. Offering visitors more options in services is seen to be one of the many ways that will help increase tourist arrivals. For example different classes of visitors require access to different levels of hotels.
The Thai government projects 14.8 million international tourists this year. Goh Ann Nee, CFO of Singapore’s City Development, told the news agency that each country needed to find its own niche or specialty to attract international tourists. She also added that Singapore’s tourism industry’s strength in growth is attributed to government support. Singapore is one of the most popular destinations in Asia despite the lack of natural resources in the country.
