Qantas has announced that it will take delivery of its first Airbus A380 on 19 September. The airline’s Executive General Manager, John Borghetti, said the airline would hold a ceremony at Airbus’ Toulouse factory before flying the superjumbo back to Sydney via Singapore. The first Qantas A380 commercial passenger service will commence on 20 October, on its Melbourne-Los Angeles route.
“This is the first of 20 A380s to join the Qantas fleet, with a total of three being delivered by the end of 2008,” Borghetti said. “We will be progressively introducing A380 services from Sydney to London via Singapore from early 2009.”
