Trials on the new Shanghai-Beijing high-speed railway will start tomorrow, China’s Ministry of Railways has said. According to a Shanghai Daily report, a month of test runs is planned for the 1318km-long line, before the scheduled launch of passenger services at the end of June 2011. China’s rail speed record was shattered on the line during tests last year, with a train reaching 486kph. These speeds will not be seen again however, after China’s new Railways Minister pledged to cut the top speed of high-speed trains in the country to just 300kph in a bid to improve efficiency.
