Shanghai celeb bar to make way for hotel
The Face Bar, a popular Shanghai haunt that has played host to the likes of Rupert Murdoch, Cliff Richard the Backstreet Boys, will close down this weekend, with the land earmarked for a hotel. According to a Bloomberg report, Face is leaving the enclosure, called Ruijin, as the landlord plans to build a paved road around the lawn in front of the 78-year-old villa that the bar has occupied since 1999, and a nine-story hotel nearby.
The Ruijin’s other historic villas have hosted Mao Tse Tung, Richard Nixon and Ho Chi Minh, the report added.
